I attended a public forum at Whitmore Square Adelaide.Federal member for Adelaide Kate Ellis M.H.R,
Deputy Lord Mayor David Plumridge Adelaide City Council and former state sec. Australian labor Party Ian Hunter M.L.C. It was where elected members listen to their community.When i raised the issue of curent problems problems regarding factions in the South Australian Labor PartyI mentioned how good people like Terry Groome fell fowl of the faction. In fact Terry was a independent minister in the Dunstan Government.
He has been reamitted as a A.L.P. In fact was campain manager for the seat he was a member for in the East of Adelaide.What was told to members of the public was John Trainer who claimed to have lost preselection due to the factions not supporting him.members of the public were informed that John in fact ran the right faction in the South Australian Parlianment.Currently quality of members of the right faction in South Australia is under a cloud. One wonders how elected members of West Torrens Council can preform their duties to ensure Ratepayers & Electors views are listened to. I consider it fine if a Councillor enters State or Federal Goverment after being in local government.Having a Mayor being involved in factions in State Politics and speaker of the House of Assembly one wonders how elected members are coping with this pressure.
